Rakuten-owned Kobo has just officially unveiled a slew of new e-readers (plus an Android tablet, naturally) in an attempt to cement its place as a serious competitor despite its persisting status as an underdog.

Apple has announced their September 12 special event, expected to see the introduction of the next generation iPhone 5. The information on the invitation is sparse. According to the graphic shared by Jim Dalrymple of The Loop, it shows the number 12 (the date of the event), and the number 5 (make of that what you will), along with the following line: "It's almost here".

The next iPhone will be called simply “iPhone” if this pic is to be believed. Published by iPhonenieuwsblog.nl, the image is reportedly of the next, ahem, new iPhone’s packaging fresh off a massive printing press. And within, clear as day, is the new iPhone with five vertical rows of icons and the wording “The New iPhone.” Gone is the numerical designation that’s been with the iPhone for the last four generations. Apple is making it as simple as possible with the next iPhone — and this will likely be confusing to a lot of people.

Apple has amended a lawsuit they filed back in February against Samsung, and is now including four new devices to the original 17 they say violate their patented technology. The additions are the Galaxy S3 (Galaxy S III), the Verizon specific Galaxy S III, the Galaxy Note, and the Galaxy Note 10.1. via android central
Well how’s this for a comeback? After being informed that they would have to pony up $1.05 billion for infringing on design and utility patents owned by Apple, Samsung has threatened to use a very important piece of firepower at some point down the line. Korea Times is reporting that Samsung is ready to sue Apple if the next iPhone has 4G LTE.

Microsoft today made good on an earlier promise and released its first official SkyDrive cloud storage app for Android devices.
The new app lets you access and browse all the documents, photos, and other files you have stored on the service right from your Android device. You can also see a list of recently opened documents, and view files that others have shared with you.

Facebook Timeline is finally on the iPad. The feature looks and acts exactly as you would expect. We're not sure why the team waited for the new app to unveil the feature, but we're sure it benefits from the performance enhancements.

Google is updating Google+ to add some new features for Hangouts. For starters, teenagers can now join and create Hangouts from mobile. We’re sure they restricted the feature for concerns of safety and privacy before, but I guess they’ve come to realize they shouldn’t restrict people based on age unless their parents want to.
