iBooks gets its first DC Comics title

DC Comics has been publishing titles on the iPad for a while now, both inthe official DC Comics app and in the Comixology app (which, as you may know, actually produces the official app anyway). But DC is now finally turning to iBooks to sell comics as well, with an iBooks version of the Batman: Earth One story that passed through the official Batman lines recently. This is DC's first title on the iBookstore, and it joins a slew of Marvel titles, as well as quite a few independent titles already selling comics in this way.

Marvel Creates Deaf Superhero So Little Boy Will Wear His Hearing Aid

Marvel Comics has a new character with a unique inspiration—a little boy. Four-year-old comic book fan Anthony Smith was born without a right ear and only partial hearing in his left. He needs the help of a hearing aid. But one morning he woke up and told his mom he didn't want to wear it anymore. Why? Because superheroes don't wear hearing aids, he declared.

Enjoy Your Comic Books With ComicBookLover

Comics are an often under-appreciated form of fiction. Some of the graphic novels I’ve read rank right up there with my favorite fantasy books. But this article is not meant to recruit new comic book lovers. Rather it’s to cater to my fellow enthusiasts.

6 Creepiest Sexual Encounters in Comic Book History

We may have mentioned a few times how comic books have mastered the art of finding new and creative ways of making sex bizarrely unappealing, even to people who read comic books. Here are some instances of superhero stories aspiring for romance but failing horrifically, like Cupid aiming his bow at a young couple but missing and hitting a choleraic orphan in the face.

Marvel’s New Format Changes How Comics Are Created—And Read

The first issue of Marvel's new Infinite Comics format comes out on the iPad tomorrow. It's a technological step forward—it allows artists to pace the storytelling by shifting focus within a single drawing, or staggering the appearance of text bubbles in dialogue. Yet, as Marvel's Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada told Gizmodo, the new format retains what makes a comic a comic.

Your very first look at Hellboy’s trip to Hell

Hellboy's been in a rough patch lately. It was only in last year's miniseries The Fury that one of Big Red's supernatural nemeses tore out his heart and killed him. Now that Hellboy's dead, his final destination should be pretty obvious.

The Creepiest Comic Book Character of All Time

If you're disturbed by the empty stare of puppets, that's normal. Ventriloquist dummies have had more murderer fingers inside them than JonBenet Ramsey. The most well-known dummy of all time is Charlie McCarthy, a fancy corpse-faced block of wood that starred in several films and TV shows with its puppet master, Edgar Bergen.

Marvel/Disney wages petty, vicious war against Ghost Rider creator

This much is certain: Gary Friedrich created the Marvel comics character Ghost Rider. Freidrich sued Marvel (and its new owners, Disney) because he claims that he never signed away the rights to his character, and thus the feature film based on the comic was illegal. Freidrich also apparently launched his own, rival line of authorized Ghost Rider merchandise.

10 iOS Superhero Games for Comic Fans

In the midst of preparing our review of the recent Superman game for posting this week, we couldn't help but think of the myriad other comic-based superhero games available on the App Store. They're not all as spectacular as the characters they're based on, unfortunately, but there are a few stellar picks in the bunch, plus many of the top heroes are represented in largely inexpensive experiences. Looking for a new way to interact with your favorite comic characters?

The Golden Age of the Nerdy Reality Show Is Upon Us

Because besides Geek Love and Kevin Smith's upcoming Comic Book Men show, the Travel Channel is airing Toy Hunters this Sunday at 11pm. I've seen the pilot episode (which is all there'll be if people don't watch on Sunday), and it's part Pawn Stars and part Storage Wars, as collectible store owner Jordan Hembrough (that's him on the right) goes around looking for cool and/or classic merchandise to buy off people and then sell at New York Comic Con.
